Annual Music Awards
36th Juno Award Winners (2007) | Juno Awards - The Junos were first introduced in 1970 with Stan Klees and Walt Grealis (publishers of weekly trade publication RPM), who organized the Gold Leaf Awards for excellence in the Canadian music industry. A year later, the name was changed to the “Juno Awards” in honour of Pierre Juneau, then head of the CRTC and responsible for the implementation of the Canadian Content Regulations in 1971. The Juno Awards operated as an exclusive industry event in those early years. In 1975, they assumed a much higher profile, being telecast nationally for the first time. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) was established that year to handle the event, working with all segments of the Canadian music industry. Now the Juno Awards travel to different Canadian cities each year, and the 2007 edition (36th edition) occurred in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 1, 2007. 35th Juno Award Winners (2006) | 50th Grammy Award Winners | Grammy Awards - Originally called the Gramophone Awards (but abbreviated to The Grammys), these are presented by the Recording Academy known as NARAS (an association of Americans professionally involved in the recorded music industry) for outstanding achievements in the music industry. The Grammy’s currently have 108 categories within 30 genres of music (eg: pop, gospel, rap) and are voted upon by peers (voting members of the Recording Academy) rather than being based upon popularity, sales, or chart achievements.
